Gestalt Mind

Various degrees of wus.

I remember going to a track meet when I was in junior high.  We arrived at the stadium early as we always did so we would have time to relax and stretch out and whatever else.  Of course, being kids, we were more interested in farting around than anything.

Coach gave us our racing assignments.  I pretty much always ran a leg of the 1600 meter relay and the 800 individual.  Both of those races tended to be at the end of the meet, so I usually had quite a bit of time to play around before I had to run.

One particular meet, I decided to go play around in the pole vault pit… I don’t know why.  I remember running with the pole, sticking it, and launching myself into the air… only to realize once I was airborne that the landing pads were not in place.

I smacked awkwardly into the concrete, looked around sheepishly to see who all saw me do something amazingly stupid, and then limped back to the stands where I was supposed to be.

For the next few hours, I sat there in pain.  From time to time, I would get up and jog around a bit to loosen up and stretch out the aches, but mostly, I tried to pretend that nothing was wrong because the LAST thing I wanted to do was to have to explain to anyone what I had done.

The time for my races finally arrived and I went out and did my best.  Needless to say, my performances were far from my best, but I completed the races.

The next day, I couldn’t hide the discoloration or swelling any longer and my mother took me to the doctor.  I had a couple of broken toes, two broken ribs, a hairline fracture in my ankle and a broken wrist.  I remember my doctor commenting more than once that he couldn’t believe I was even able to run.

Over this past weekend, I caught a cold.  It wasn’t anything major… just a minor sinus infection with a minor resperatory infection, but I mean… this damn thing shut me down.  I spent the last 4 days curled up in a fetal position in bed.  From time to time, I would wake up, groan at the ceiling, roll over and go back to sleep.

I swear… I could probably sever my own leg and find a way to keep doing whatever I was doing, but give me so much as a sniffle and you had better just write me off for anything for a while.

Get your own beer, dammit!

I think that my largest complaint about the new generation of MMO’s has got to be the questing system.  Keep in mind that I am not against having a questing system.  Quite the contrary.  I LOVE questing.  Back in EQ, I think I played the only non-melee in my guild that did most of the Coldain Ring War quest line without ever having any intentions of wearing the ring once complete.  I just enjoyed the quest.

Growing up ain’t THAT hard to do.

Have you ever bought a book that you really thought you would enjoy but then, just a few pages into it, you got really bored?  Still, you spent the money so you felt like you were obligated to just trudge though it anyway.  You found yourself hoping with every turn of the page that it would get better.

At First Glance

Since I am always talking about the elements of the current MMO’s that I don’t like, I decided to offer up my own opinions of the game that I would like to play.  As I said yesterday, these are just my own personal opinions of what I would like to see in the game that I would like to play.  Some (or all) of these ideas may honestly not even be possible.  Not being a programmer myself, I don’t know what can and cannot be done.  Still, if there were no limitations in what programming could do, the next few posts will outline the game that I would like to play if I could put together my dream game.  Take it for what it is worth.

First up, the newbie experience.

Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were.

It seems to me that more and more lately, I have spent my time talking about how much I don’t like certain aspects of the current MMO’s on the market.  Of course, complaining without offering any solutions is just another way of making noise.
