Spinning in the mud
There are many factors at play here. My quest to leveling my dirge in EQ2 has stalled out somewhat.
To be fair and honest, I haven’t tried all that damn hard this week. I hit level 46 Sunday morning and, by the time I logged off Sunday evening, I was about 48% into 46. As of logging off last night, I was 53% in.
It was easy to get frustrated and say, “So THIS is why so few people play dirges, huh?” But, the truth is that I knew going in that dirges were a bit harder to solo up than many other classes and, quite honestly, that was one of the things that appealed to me. I enjoy a challange.
To be fair though, I have to admit that my heart hasn’t been in it this week. There have been many external factors at play that have had my mind anywhere but in Norrath. As a result, most nights this week, I didn’t even log on until nearly 9. When I did log on, I mostly just checked my auctions real quick and then logged right back off.
Last night, I headed back to Steamfont where I have an open yellow con quest to kill 10 drakes and harvest 5 of the scratched ore that they use for food. I was able to kill 5 drakes that were even con and I think I harvested all of the ore that I need. After killing the fifth, I looked around and the only drakes that were up were yellow. I tried to kill one, but my health was falling slightly faster than his was, so I finally evac’d and logged out.
I’ve been a bit cranky this whole week and last night was no exception, so it was easy to just sit there and grump to myself and say, “Screw this class. I’m going to just start playing something different that has better offensive or better defensive abilities.”
But, I have to admit to myself that I honestly haven’t tried all that hard. The first 48% was just as easy as every other level. The last 5% felt like being pulled naked across broken glass because I let it feel that way. I let external frustrations ruin my enjoyment of playing a game.
I woke up this morning in a vastly improved state of mind and I am anxious for this evening to get here so that I can log on with a new attitude and continue my journey.
On a completely unrelated note, Gdub over at The Lost Souls made a post yesterday that cracked me up. It wasn’t the content of the post that made me laugh. In fact, it was a very good post and I encourange you to read it. It was why he made it that gave me a chuckle.
For those who do not use WordPress, there are some nifty little features in the admin dashboard. One of them shows what search phrases were used in search engines that lead people to your site. Gdub thought it was kind of funny that he had been getting so many hits from people searching for the best race/class combinations.
That by itself was not funny. What got me to laughing was thinking about what the most common search engine hit it is that I get. Nearly every single day, I get at least 1 search engine hit for the phrase “Die mother fucker die.”
Some engine hits are more disturbing than others.
WTF? I was doing a search for ‘Furry ass eating’ and I hit this page…
Pfft. I might have fallen for that if you had used a different name. =P
lmao, yeah I like it when people do monthly wrapups and list their Search Engine terms. Some of them are too damn funny. That and the spam.
Rao, I still get wrecked sometimes by Yellows. I take my time usually and measure up the mob before I attack and when I don’t sometimes I just get my ass handed to me. Makes me wish I had an evac
BTW, I can’t wait for Steamfont. Still level 37 though.
Yeah. Me being upset last night about getting my butt kicked by a yellow was a reflection of my mood. Hell, back in EQ1, the thought of standing toe-to-toe with anything, even a green, after about level 20 was suicide for most classes. I was just being whiney last night.
You will probably love Steamfont. It is a very well done zone… lots of fun quests and entertaining content as you quest for the Gnomeland Security Group… a name that still makes me laugh my ass off.
I played a dirge into the 30s on pvp, and the main trick with a dirge is learning to kite. Now kiting isn’t nearly the same as it was in EQ1, mainly because snares have a chance to break everytime you damage the mob, and it pretty much breaks the first time you damage it. But, with snare, your arrow shot that roots, and stun, you should be able to lock down a mob long enough to kill it. I used to open with the root shot, and shoot off my ranged spells that required standing still, then after the root broke, snare, run and cast, and then when snare breaks, stun and do positionals. Rinse and repeat until mob is dead. Should be able to take 1-2 ups depending on quality of spells/gear and con of the mob.
