I miss factories

I only spent about 10 minutes in EQ2 over the weekend.  I logged on last night just to hop through my various toons to see what had sold on the broker.

My provisioner had sold out again and I had e-mail waiting.  When I opened my e-mail, I found a request from someone for multiple stacks of food and drink.  The e-mail went on to ask me why I didn’t have more up for sale.

I sat there looking at that e-mail for a second trying to figure out the proper way of saying, “Because I’m lazy as hell.”

Actually, it isn’t so much that I’m lazy as it is the fact that factories in SWG spoiled me rotten.  I don’t mind the crafting grind in EQ2.  I actually enjoy it a great deal.  However, I do tend to be a bit odd about it.  Once I make an item, I really don’t want to make it again.  I will, but the second (and beyond) combine just feels like work… waiting through a crafting process that takes anywhere from 1 minute to several minutes.

I realize that factories wouldn’t work in EQ2… that they wouldn’t be practical for the genre so I’m certainly not saying that I would like to see them here.  It is just a lament for one area of SWG that I really enjoyed.

I would like to say that…

I would like to say that I spent the weekend contemplating my position in the world and how I might better myself and the world as a whole.

I would like to say that I spent the weekend pondering the “Great Questions” and experiencing magnificient epiphanies.

I would like to say I am a better person today than I was on Friday.

In my less “god complex” moments…

I would like to say that I played EQ2 all weekend and reached a pinnacle of achievement so far unachieved by me.

I would like to say that I completed some previously unsolved quest or event and the entire server community marveled at my gaming ability.

I would like to say that I branched out and gave Vanguard another spin.

I would like to say that, in a stroke of magnificience, I created the baseline of a game that would totally revolutionize the gaming experience.

In my moments of pondering personal goals…

I would like to say that I picked up my guitar and spent hours losing myself in the music and felt a peace wash over my soul.

I would like to say that I picked up my camera and walked for hours and hours getting in touch with nature and snapping magnificient pictures.

I would like to say that I hopped up on my mountain bike and went riding through some of the most breath-taking scenery ever seen by man.

I would like to say that I spent the weekend exercising and putting my body back into shape.

In my “working to achieve” moments…

I would like to say that I spent the weekend in front of the computer writing… laying the groundwork for a novel of epic proportions.

I would like to say that I finally created “the perfect resume”… a resume so fine and polished that today, I have companies competing for phone time with me begging me to come join their organization.

I would like to say any of these things today, but none of them would be the truth and all would negate the reality that I spent a rather silly weekend sitting on the couch watching a marathon of Pinky and the Brain and Star Trek episodes.
