And make it a double
On Monday morning, I get to get really screwed up… and no one gets to turn up their nose at me and talk about how sad it is that I’m loopy first thing in the morning. Why?
Root canal, baby!
Not that that’s a good thing.
I went to the dentist yesterday because I have a broken section of tooth on an upper molar on the right hand side and it keeps tearing the hell out of my tongue. I had this fixed once before, but the cap or hole plug or whatever it was popped off not too long ago. I ignored it for a while, but the ache is getting old so I finally went in.
The big surprise is that it isn’t this tooth that I have to have drilled out or canaled or whatever it is that they do in a root canal. Hell no. It’s a completely different tooth on the other side of my mouth.
My last dentist was a great guy. I started going to him when I was 6 or 7 years old. When I was managing a swimming pool, his step daughter worked for me during the summers. When my family all decided that they hated each other and split in a thousand different directions, he started inviting me to spend holidays with him and his family so that I wouldn’t have to be alone. The point is, he was just very nice.
He also has Parkinson’s Disease.
During the last few years of owning his practice, he was starting to really lose control. His hands would shake horribly bad making me damn nervous when I heard that drill fire up.
At my last appointment, he was filling a cavity for me. I could tell he was really trying and was very frustrated with himself over not having control. He ended up coming nearly to the brink of tears as he realized that he simply couldn’t do his job any longer.
Unfortunately for me, it was this tooth. He had apparently successfully drilled the tooth, but missed partially when putting in the filling. Now the tooth is all screwed up and I get to have a root canal.
Of course, in this sue-happy world that we live in, more than half the people I have told that story to are going on about, “Sue his ass!” That’s nice… repay a man for 30 years of kindness by taking away the only thing he has left… his dignity.
This is a minor inconvenience for me and a financial frustration, but it certainly isn’t the end of the world and I am definately not experiencing some kind of emotional turmoil that someone else must pay for. If this attitude keeps up, we’ll need to change the saying from, “America- the land of the free” to “America- the land of getting things for free that you don’t deserve… just scream lawsuit any time you step in someone else’s gum.”
Anywho, nothing much else to chat about. I got home late last night and spent some time studying for my upcoming test. I then logged in and knocked out a tradeskill level on Fuzz, so he’s now a 52 jeweler. I ran Rao over to The Sinking Sands to harvest some wood and roots since Fuzz is running low and even managed to score a few shinies that I was missing. That was basically it though. I only had about 30 minutes of game time available last night.
Tonight, I’m going to try to run Ray and Fuzz through the Flowing Black Silk Sash HQ and do some maybe do a bit more harvesting. I’m really trying to keep the game time light until I get this test done as it is starting to approach rapidly and I will now most likely be down for at least one day next week… although, I’m stubborn as hell. My boss asked me if I wanted to take one or two days off and I replied that I would be back at work Monday after the root canal was over. He looked at me like I was crazy and then said, “You’re crazy.” Probably so.
Still, I can be in pain at home or here at work. It’s all the same to me.
So how’s the tooth feeling?
It actually doesn’t hurt. When I had my exam, he asked if I needed any pain killers to tide me over until the procedure and I told him I couldn’t feel it. When I had my wisdom teeth out years ago, my surgeon had to cut and remove a nerve that had become pinched and wrapped around the roots of one of my wisdom teeth.
Now, we’ll see how that stands up come Monday when I have it done. I’m sure I’ll walk out of there looking like The Godfather.
