I know it was you, Fredo
I have a minor league rant building up inside of me and it is just dying to get out. Truthfully, it is minor and probably more than just slightly petty in the greater scheme of things, but the whole thing is an annoyance that is driving me up the wall.
However, several weeks ago, I made a promise to someone and I try to always keep my promises. So I’ll just chew on my tongue, hold my peace, and not betray the Corleon family. All things pass in time.
I think I’m on Guild Hall overload right now. I logged in last night with the intention of checking out the new quests in Sinking Sands, but as I was still appearing in the world, I heard my voice chat light up with, “Ah! There he is,” followed quickly by, “Rao, we need your carpenter.”
I could only smile and chuckle to myself.
I logged over to my carpenter and began cranking out orders just as quickly as I could. I would bust out an item, throw it outside into the hallway, and start on the next while writing down additional requests on a pad of paper. Before I knew it, the clock had moved from 7PM to midnight.
Those who are doing the decorating of the RnH guild hall are doing a fantastic job. Some of what has been done is not something that I personally would do for me, but that is just because my personal taste for my spaces runs a bit different. However, I could see doing very similar things for others if they requested a particular theme. All-in-all, I am very impressed with their work.
There are still many rooms to go however. I have made it known that I am available for crafting until the initial onslaught is over, so I expect that tonight will likely be a repeat of last night. I could be wrong. Those who are decorating may decide to take a break tonight in which case I will go out adventuring. We will see what happens.
One really nice thing is that I have been desperately wanting to redecorate Rao’s 5-room Qeynos home but I’ve just been too lazy to do it. When I initially purchased the house, I could hardly afford it and I only had enough status for the purchase and the first week of rent. What resulted was a mad leveling dash on my carpenter and I would drop 1 of every single item from every single level into the house to bring the status cost down.
The result was a massive dumping ground of haphazard delight. I have more chairs, beds, and tables than any one person should be allowed to have in single home. Several items that I had that I didn’t necessarily want fit right in with what the decorators were doing in the guild hall, so rather than make the items, I would run down the street and pick the items up.
I am still one massive collection of cluttered crap in Rao’s house, but the overwhelming mass of junk has taken a significant downturn. At the very least, I have a couple of rooms that are cleared out enough that I can shift items around in order to get a better idea of what goes where and what comes next.
Of course, that project will be delayed a bit as I am sure I will be completely sick of crafting furniture by the time this guild hall project is complete. Still, it will be a nice project to kick around in my head for something to do once the holidays roll around and I take my second vacation.
And the whole guild hall thing has me wondering if more people will do what so many of my guildies are doing. Many of them are taking all of their rare, unique and impressive house items and donating them to the guild hall, stripping everything else from their homes and offering it up, and putting anything no one wants on the broker. They are then relinquising ownership of their personal homes and either completely doing without or moving back into the 1-room apartments in the hamlets. The only reason most of them feel a need for even having a house now is for running their broker sales and they figure they can do that from the smaller homes.
With the number of people in my guild that I saw abandoning their homes last night alone, I wonder if that scene is repeating itself all over the place.
For me, I won’t be abandoning my homes. I’m sure I’ll be spending more time in the guild hall than in my homes, but I honestly don’t spend a lot of time in my houses now. Still, I can decorate my houses how I want them to be decorated and give them my personality. The guild hall will never be home because the decorations are not mine, the designs are not mine and the themes do not fit me.
I do love walking through though and thinking, “This belongs to us. This is what we achieved as a team.”
Once again, I congratulate the developers on a job VERY well done on these guild halls. I still haven’t even walked through all of them to see what the different ones look like, but from the 2 in Qeynos that I have been in, I can only imagine how fantastic the others are.
Perhaps that will be on the agenda for this evening… to tour the other city guild halls. I might even create an alt on Najena and go snooping around in the Nostalgia Hall.
Obviously, I am uncertain as to what exactly I will be doing this evening. That is fine though. The only thing that is really important to me for tonight is that I remember that I broke out my Halloween decorations from last year. That damn zombie scared the shit out of me last night because I had totally forgotten he was there waiting to pop out and say hello.
Those zombie must have had their annual meeting last night, because the same thing happened to Tipa as she was going through her home.
I tend to agree about people leaving their homes in favour of the guildhalls. I personally am giving up one of my 3 5-room houses, but not my ‘main’ ones. I dedicated too much time to those and don’t want to just rip them down. Tipa also graciously offered to donate her theater to the guildhall – which I adamantly said no. I’ll build a second one for the hall, but no way is she allowed to give up the personal one I made just for her.
The halls are a huge thumbs up in my book. My only ‘wish’ is that they had created a central location / courtyard where everyone could hang out and talk before zoning into a guildhall. As it is now, I’ll never see anyone since everything you could possibly want (minus broker sales) is inside of the hall.
